Shilo Renee Hinrichs

Graphic Design & Illustration

When I was a kid, I would take a sheet of paper and draw little meandering lines all over it until the entire page was covered. Then I would spend hours coloring them all in with every color in my crayon box (the BIG box). As the years went on, I had a hunger for trying every art medium I could, from painting, sewing, and needle crafts, to jewelry making, wood burning, pottery, and more. When I discovered graphic design as a career option, I was so excited to have the opportunity to use the artistic skills I’ve honed, like composition and color, and incorporate them into my design work in ways that are intentional and relevant to the project I’m working on. I love researching and diving deep into the history of a brand to discover innovative ways to help them reach their goals. I’m excited to keep learning, and to work for an employer that values creativity, communication, and attention to detail.

Klein’s Floral & Greenhouses Responsive Website

As someone who has always loved gardening and the outdoors, I wanted to build something for a brand that spoke to me. I made it my goal to create a responsive website for Klein’s Floral & Greenhouses using artistic tools that complement the aesthetic. The flowers, bamboo, and dragonfly graphics are carvings I made from linoleum. I hand-printed and then scanned each one to reflect the rustic, earthy feel of gardening and give users a joyful experience.

Underdog Pet Rescue Rebranding

When someone is ready to adopt a pet and give them a forever home, it’s helpful for the rescue center to have an engaging brand. I created this rebrand to demonstrate a friendly, fun, and charming design. I used watercolor paints to create the illustrations and backgrounds, keeping it simple to allow the pets to shine through and be the focus. The rebrand includes a redesigned website, an updated logo with several variations, an environmental graphic, three print ads, and merchandise.

Milwaukee Tools Ad Series

Everyone knows you shouldn’t build without safe, quality tools. I created this ad series with a gritty, edgy look to reflect the toughness and durability of Milwaukee Tools. The contest concept puts forth a solution that benefits both the customer and the company. By signing up and joining an email list, customers have an opportunity to win a set of tools, and Milwaukee Tools gains potential customers through future email ads and promotions.

Kala Brand Music Company Brochure

Kala Brand Music Company offers a wide variety of ukuleles for all ages. I designed this brochure to showcase a few of their ukulele designs, bring attention to the starter kits and online lessons available, and share the story of how Kala got started. The flowers throughout the brochure are watercolor paintings I created. I cut around each flower, then photographed and added them to each spread to give the brochure a hand-made tropical feel.
