Blue Nicolas Lee

Graphic Design & Illustration

Growing up, I’ve always had a deep passion for art, and truly, any medium where I am able to bring creative ideas to life. Currently Nashville based and in my last semester of school, I am overjoyed that I have been able to turn my lifelong passion into a career. I find the most fulfillment in developing branding, cohesive sets, or really anything that carries a story through many pieces of work. I also enjoy expanding upon a strong existing voice; using those blueprints to create something new, exciting, and supportive. My love for illustration and traditional art leads me to include those elements whenever possible, with my biggest goal in design being to bring a human and organic feel to digitally created elements in order to create something that feels more alive and personal.

Native: Elemental - Brand Booklet

Native is a personal hygiene brand that focuses on creating natural, cruelty free products. This fictional campaign, “Elemental,” represents Native’s core values of being derived from the earth. This language is supported by the use of elemental symbols throughout the multi page booklet, meant to act as a mailer with information about the brand, the campaign, and the products they offer.

“As It Returns to the Earth” Tarot Cards

This set creates the Major Arcana of a tarot deck and includes 22 2.75” x 4.75” cards designed for print in a monoline style with a limited color palette. Each card design utilizes the form of an animal skull and floral element to symbolize the preexisting meanings, and most reference the composition of the most iconic “Rider–Waite” tarot deck, Illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith. Concepts and sketches were completed for the full deck of 78 cards, and for the semester-long honors project, 22 were brought to completion and printed.

Waffle House - Rebranding

This southern based breakfast restaurant’s current branding is impersonal and cold, so this project reimagines Waffle House’s voice under the concept “Have Fun for Breakfast.” The shift to a brighter, rounder, and more conceptual logo system fosters a family-friendly and inviting environment. Supporting this concept are elements you would regularly encounter while dining: a new menu, a coloring page, an interior wall, gift cards, and employee uniforms.
