Jared Melo

Graphic Design & Illustration

Born and raised here in Madison, at a young age I always had an affinity for art and an interest in logos, advertising, and being a sucker for great package design. What I didn't realize until I became an adult, is that all of these things that always owned my attention was created by a graphic designer. After a long career in the restaurant industry, I decided to do something different and hopefully more fufulling and gave this graphic design thing a try. After my first semester in the program, I realized this isn't just a career, it's my vocation.

La Fête de Marquette Promo Poster

As one of the largest and most popular Summertime festivals in Madison, La Fête de Marquette deserves a visually striking poster. To celebrate this vibrant and culturally-rich event, I drew inspiration from vintage Victorian era poster design, the objective of this poster is to call attention to the festival and it’s artistic and musical offerings.

Artist's & Craftsman Supply Rebranding

This beloved art supply store is a household name to every artist in Madison. Therefore, a considerate rebranding was required to keep up with our modern times but still hold true to the techniques that have been in practice since the Renaissance. ‘Da Vinci Would’ve Shopped Here” is a tagline that any artist can relate to. With the use of famous artists’ portraits, some cyberpunk style neon effects, modern typography, and bright mesmerizing colors, this re-branding has an easily recognizable visual language that uses modern technique on classical imagery to give the visuals the best of both worlds.

Beats Audio Ad Series

These iconic headphones needed advertising to show their noise canceling capabilities and how they work in the real world. As an actual user of these headphones I wanted to create an ad series that would be able to emphasize the feeling you get when wearing these headphones. Whether your walking down a city street, riding the subway, or sitting in a noisy cafe the Beats Audio headphones keeps you in a soundproof bubble where you only hear your own soundtrack. With subtle type, the visuals are what speaks loudest in the advertising, giving the sense that the world gets a lot quieter when you’re using Beats headphones.

Science on the Square Promotional Posters

Science on the Square is an annual science fair right in the heart of Madison that is suitable for patrons of all ages. When approaching this design challenge the requirements were one type oriented poster and one graphic forward poster. These posters needed to catch the attention of both children and adults and garner both their interests in attending. My inspiration for the work came from the Bauhaus School of Design and the posters they created to promote their design expos in 1920’s Germany. Using basic geometrical shapes in the Bauhaus style and vibrant saturated colors to give them a modern look.
